Continuing Professional Development

All family physicians in Canada are required to do continuing professional development (CPD) to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date. Maintenance of Proficiency, or MAINPRO® for short, is the CFPC’s program designed to support the CPD requirements. Mainpro serves three key functions:

  • To provide CPD participation guidelines and standards for Canadian family physicians;
  • To enable family physicians to conveniently track and monitor their CPD participation;
  • To ensure high-quality, ethical CPD programming through a rigorous peer-review accreditation process.

Some exciting changes are happening to Mainpro beginning in 2015. The program will be enhanced to meet the changing interests and learning requirements of family physicians. The new Mainpro will introduce new reporting categories in a system that is easier and more intuitive to use. Watch for more details at www.cfpc.ca/MAINPRO/.
